Holly Briesmaster, Waterscroll

Inglis Falls Diamond, acrylic on birch panel, 24 x 24 inches

Holly Briesmaster’s show, Waterscroll, contains abstract landscapes that fill the room with the visual sound of rushing, falling water. Largely based on vistas the artist enjoyed seeing in British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario, there’s a range of emotion in these works most of which are painted on long, narrow fabric scrolls. Some are bold in line and colour with blues and greens, while others show a more delicate experience in tans and pinks of distant mountains. In particular some pieces presented several mountains stacked — or were they ranges in the distance? Or large rocks in the nearby? No matter. I enjoyed having the option to interpret the imagery in many different ways.
