Selected in Magenta Foundation’s 2010 Flash Forward as one of the top emerging photographers, Zilberberg’s creations are attracting critical acclaim.
Inspired by folklore, mythology, fairy tales, and feminism, her work places new gloss on traditional themes.
Zilberberg expands on depictions of femininity and the environment as portrayed in literature, pagan tradition, religious formalism and the deity through image manipulation. She extracts the essence of female power, taking goddesses back to their origins, removing outdated notions of a weaker sex, questioning our values and treatment of the natural environment and the state of the earth. Her goddesses are women that are powerful, capable, alluring and defeating— goddesses almighty. Likewise, she does not mask the dark side of our best known fairy tales. From Alice’s straightjacket to Red Riding Hood’s collapse, the enormity of female struggle plays out.
Zilberberg is a Toronto-based photographer and visual artist. A graduate of Ryerson’s Fine Arts program (photography), her use of composite images melds fantasy with reality with striking precision. She has exhibited in Canada and Japan, as well as having been published in several print and online magazines.
