Watching the interplay of light and shadow, as they chase each other and caress the skin of a human body can be quite delightful. The curves and undulations formed by bones, muscles, sinews and tendons pressing outward against skin causes interesting patterns and shadows to be created.
A camera, and the aperture setting of its lens, introduces another element, depth of field, to the mix, causing select details to emerge, while other parts of the image fade into obscurity. As the distance between camera and subject diminishes context is lost and an abstract quality slowly asserts itself.
The addition of Yoga poses, performed by a talented and flexible model, contributes a sense of mystery.
Now stripped of colour, through black and white image processing, the human body appears to have dissolved into a beautiful collection of lines, curves and shades of grey.
Is that an arm or a leg…?
A bum or a breast…?
