WSAG is pleased to present a joint art exhibition of paintings by ANNE BARKLEY and DONNA BROWN: “Old Friends – New Art” from May 16- June 2. Art Party with artist in attendance to be held on Thursday, May 17 (7-9 pm) at 270 Wellington Street West, Toronto.
“My intention when I paint is to find a complexity in simple but strong abstract shapes and beautiful colours that will challenge and engage the observer. I use physical and emotional intensity to get to that place where thought stops and my intuition can have free rein; I invite my viewers’ participation and response, so that art as communication can take place.
Serenity, emotion, strength, determination, passion, harmony, and freedom guide me as I share my vision through colour, design, shape, pattern, line, texture, value, edges and space, repetition with variety, movement and rhythm.” Anne Barkley
“I find that working with brushes and paint is an exciting adventure. When I approach a canvas, it is seldom with a pre-determined plan. If I do have a plan, however, I become so involved in the process of painting that changes always occur, and the finished product is always different from the original conception.
I believe that painting often expresses that which cannot be conveyed through words. When I paint at my freest and best, I enter a place where there is no thought, only feeling, and the work almost seem to create themselves. This is a wonderful private place, just for me, but it’s more. It’s a place where I feel in touch with something larger. I’ve reconnected with the feeling I had as a child, a belief in the spiritual and the magic and wonder of life.” Donna Brown
