2 of 2 Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of new paintings by Toronto-based artist Shaheer Zazai. Zazai’s second show at 2 of 2 Gallery is an archeological dig into humanity’s long-standing persistence to revolution, its miscommunication and the negligence of the failure that follows. This body of work deals with the constant re-examination of identity and culture that is manifested in contemporary art. The standpoint taken is one that denies the possibility of positive definition, arguing the destructive effect of ideological ‘progress’ and slowly putting to rest the hollow optimism of post-modern thought. The process is one of archeology, uncovering a genealogy of flawed revolutions in the constant presence of human error.
“A principle is the expression of perfection, and as imperfect beings like us cannot practice perfection, we devise every moment limits of its compromise in practice.” – Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
Shaheer Zazai received his BFA from Ontario College of Art and Design University (OCADU) in 2010. He has been exhibiting his work since 2008.
