WSAG is pleased to present Robin Laws Field: “Surfaces: The Stories and the Photos” from MARCH 20–31. Art Party with artist in attendance to be held on SATURDAY, MARCH 24 (2–4 p.m.) at 270 Wellington Street West, Toronto.
Throughout her travels around the world, Robin Laws Field became fascinated by the colour and texture of surfaces; everything from floors, pavements, walls, fences and rusting freight cars, to tree trunks, doors, shutters, and footprints in the sand all got a second look. Exquisite little bits of abstract art surrounded the artist, crying out to be photographed and taken into her studio for a mixed-media (but mostly threaded needle) interpretation.
Laws Field notes that “colour and texture pull me in and keep me up at night until I’ve figured out how to make them mine; and then how to picture them so that others can see what I see, be it beautiful, ugly, political, sentimental, funny or just a scintillating juxtaposition of bits and pieces that somehow please. And, because much of my inspiration has arrived in places not my own, there is always a memory of place attached.”
Drop by the gallery and view Robin’s exquisite fibre artworks—over 25 pieces available.
