Paul Brandejs was born in the Czech Republic and immigrated to Canada with his parents, who settled in Saskatoon. As a teenager he attended summer painting courses at the Banff School of Fine Arts. He received three scholarships that enabled him to study under Ilda Lubane, an artist who had a profound impact on his work.
His passion for painting led him to study Fine Art at the Ontario College of Art. He holds a four-year Diploma in Fine Arts and a Diploma in Communications & Design/Editorial Design. His final year of Fine Arts study was spent in Florence, Italy, studying under Canadian figurative artist Tom La Pierre.
Paul has developed a unique art style, working on sculpted canvas with a variety of techniques. He creates his own stretcher frames which define the individual pieces as much as the actual application of media onto the canvas. Although he works with two-dimensional images he brings them in to the three-dimensional world. www.paulbrandejs.com
